T he
Good-Will Fire Department is a volunteer fire company which provides fire and
rescue protection to many residents and businesses in the Town of Newburgh.
We encompass a wide stretch of the southeast corner of the Town of
Newburgh, providing protection from Washington Lake to the
Mid-Valley Mall. We protect a widespread area, including two
exit ramps and several miles along Interstate 84, two malls, and a
large range of residential and commercial zones stretching from
Vails Gate to Middlehope.
In 2011 , we responded
to over 250 emergency calls
for help, including building fires, Jaws-of-Life calls, rescue calls,
hazardous material spills, brush fires,
significant flooding conditions with area evacuations, and
helping our neighboring fire departments battle fires of their
own. We are comprised of nearly 50 dedicated members who collectively
volunteer thousands of training and working hours to serve our
community - 365 days a year.
Emergency calls are only one part of our
function. When we are not fighting fires and training, we continue
volunteering our time in other ways. Every Christmas, we escort
Santa around the fire district with candy canes for the
neighborhood children. Every Thanksgiving, we play a charity football game
with the proceeds being donated to a local soup
kitchen. On the 4th of July, we participate in
the annual townwide Community Day and
teach children a safe means of egress if their home is on fire. These are just some examples of what we do to give back to our community. The fire department does not shut down when there are no emergencies.
